CLEVELAND — Former Cleveland Browns linebacker Jamir Miller has been advised to retire by a doctor who examined the free agent's surgically repaired Achilles' tendon.

"He got a very discouraging medical report," Miller's agent, Leigh Steinberg, said Monday. "The Achilles' injury is very serious. He's seriously considering retirement and is in the last stages of making a decision."

Miller, who made the Pro Bowl after recording 13 sacks in 2001, ruptured his right Achilles' tendon in the Browns' exhibition opener against Minnesota last August and missed the entire season.

Steinberg said Miller had been bothered by soreness in his heel the past few weeks, and he visited a specialist in Los Angeles on Friday.

"He has been medically advised not to play football," Steinberg said. "He had been hoping it would improve. The last time he played, he was a Pro Bowler. It's sort of sad."

Earlier Monday, the Browns confirmed they had withdrawn their one-year contract offer to Miller. Browns spokesman Todd Stewart said the team rescinded its $1.65 million package, leaving the 29-year-old player without any teams showing interest in him.

Stewart said Browns president Carmen Policy sent a letter to Steinberg late last week informing him that the club couldn't wait any longer for an answer about their proposal.

"We never heard back," Stewart said.

Didn't he start off with the Cardinals around the BUddy Ryan era?
Never quite lived up to his billing/potential.

He played 5 years for the Cardinals 94/98.
When was Buddy Ryan there? Can't remember...Seems like 15 years ago..lol

True, he never did really live up to his billing until his final year (2001) when he went to the Pro Bowl with 13 sacks.
At least he went out on top, i guess.

LB Jamir Miller will announce his retirement from football as early as today, a source said yesterday. Miller, 29, will make the announcement in a conference call with local media in the next day or two, the source said. Agent Leigh Steinberg said he is looking into broadcasting opportunities for Miller, "who has been blessed with a natural broadcast voice." He said Miller also might join Steinberg in the sports representation business.

Jamir is an awesome guy I hate to see this happen to him. The browns offered 1 million dollars in signing bonuses and he didnt take them up on it til he felt he was at a point he could play, class guy !

friends and I met him at a Dave n Busters, he was totally cool.. I had to ask for his autograph and he was extremely nice about it, he noticed we waited til he was done eating and he told us how much he appreciated that and he picked up our bill and even played shuffleboard with us. I hate to see this guy leave Cleveland he did a lot for the community.

NOt so sure about that MrK, it's just that the only thing that stands out in people's heads about Rudd is him costing them the game with that incident. Monte Kiffin feels he fits perfectly into their defensive scheme, and its hard to question that guy. Besides, not like they need too much but a little patchwork here and there on that D.

I live in Cleveland and tossing his helmet was the only thing he did on the field all year that merited any notice. but you are right in this aspect...tampa doesnt need him to do anything except fill holes.. an overall great defense will hide this guys weaknesses

Cant argue with ya there Mrk, it was your home team, you obviously know more about them than I do. But, I also have to say that some guys play better in different systems. Not to say that he will, but Kiffin and Gruden (Like Gruden knows defense!

) seem to think he will do fine. Are you a Browns fan K?
